Sometimes the first signs are a few new lines on the face, maybe a couple of extra pounds on the scale or a little larger clothes size. We start our summer off by getting ready to go to the beach and notice we have some cellulite for the first time (don't panic, 9 out of 10 women do). You may be brushing your hair in the morning and realize it doesn't hold the same style that it did 5 years ago, possibly because it's beginning to thin out a little.

  This is no time to panic, we have so many resources available to us that allow us to lose weight, reduce cellulite, remove fine lines and wrinkles, restore hair loss, stay healthier from the use of vitamins and supplements that our parents never would have imagined. I am going to cover a few specific areas.

   Facial Appearance

    This area has seen a tremendous amount of reserch in the last 25 years. It began in earnest with the first collagen injections back in 1982 and has continued to the present.  Reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, and crows feet  has made the anti-wrinkle business a billion dollar one from every legitimate company to the shysters out for the quick buck.  There has been much research on the subject, but it basically comes down to what actually works and what doesn't.

  One of the biiggest breakthroughs about 3 years ago was that  a company developed a way to infuse collagen through the skin.  Many companies had been using a collagen based product, but it was applied to the surface and was never allowed to penetrate the skin since the collagen molecule is quite large and unable to do so.  

  A clinical test showed that 40% of this product penetrated the 3 layers of epidermis after 10 minutes and 95% of it penetrated all 3 levels after 1 hour, which showed that you could inject collagen into the skin without needles.

  The Life Extension Program which is dedicated to the slowing down of aging in all areas did its own testing.  Below is a brief exerpt.

  we at Life Extension have learned to be skeptical of what can turn out to be hyped claims. Therefore, we asked for samples to try on people that we know personally. The initial results have been encouraging. One woman who regularly used Botox® injections stated that Hydroderm® worked just as well. We then requested more samples so we could conduct our own clinical study and ascertain whether the product was really effective. We gave 10 people of various ages a jar of this transdermal collagen liquid and instructed them to use it on only one side of the face for 30 days. The results in some of the study participants were significant. One older study participant could not wait for the clinical trial to finish, as she looked somewhat disfigured because one side of her fact looked younger than the other. Younger volunteers, on the other hand, did not notice a significant improvement. Most of the participants, however, were extremely satisfied with the product and eagerly awaited the completion of the study so they could use Hydroderm® on the other side of their faces as well.

  They also found that while using this product along with a Vitamin C Cream improved its effectiveness.

  While still on the subject of collagen, much of the hoopla began as everyone started to notice Julia Roberts lips.  You had to have those smooth, plump lips if you were gong to be a Hollywood Starlet.  As always happpens what is seen on the movie screen eventually finds a way into our everyday life.  Everyone who was "somebody" had to have  collagen lip injections, which gave you plump lips, but also were very expensive and quite painful.  Fortunately, or unfortunately the skin care companies started picking up on this, and began introducing enough lip plumping products to make your head spin.
